Available fuel and Service

Until recently, the only fuel available in South Africa was leaded fuel. Leaded and unleaded fuel is now available. All new vehicles are designed to run on lead free petrol.

Ask for the highest octane fuel depending on the region you are visiting. They differ between the coast and inland.

An attendant operates the pumps at the fuel stations in South Africa. If requested, they will check the vehicle's oil level and tire pressure, and wipe the windshield. It is recommended to offer a small tip when they collect payment for the fuel.

Note: Please ensure that the vehicle is switched off, all flammable objects are extinguished including cigarettes and incense. No use of cell phones are permitted near the fuel pumps as they may risk setting off an explosion.

Fuel in South Africa may only be purchased with cash. Fuel may not be purchased on credit card or by cheques. Fuel is always set at a fixed Government controlled price.
